Tales Of FCAT Success (Tampa Tribune, April 21, 2006, Marilyn Brown)
Hillsborough's top elementary (writing) scores were shared by Roosevelt Elementary in Tampa, Schwarzkopf Elementary in Lutz and Cypress Creek Elementary in Ruskin. All had 4.5 scores.
At Schwarzkopf, the school got parents more involved. Language Arts teacher Gina Russek ran after-school workshops for parents of fourth-graders, saying, "I taught the parents just like I would the children."
Like their children, parents got to see sample prompts and essays that scored well and distinguish between expository and narrative writing. They learned "wow" words to liven writing and transitions that could provide a smooth flow, (Dr.) Mautte (Schwarzkopf's Assistant Principal) said.
